Where residential buildings are unsure if they’re

residential buildings.

And doorways much to small

lead to Polish flats, decaying auto shacks,

and roads the city long forgot.

Even though I have plans to move, the past four months that I’ve lived in this house have been incredible/insane/crazy/surreal. I’ll look back on this period of my life where I lived wrecklessly, carefree, and loved every minute of it.

It’s funny; almost every aspect of my life I view as part of a story I’m telling years and years from now. I’m currently working in a factory to save up for my South American trip I’ve been wanting to do for some time. Except, I don’t really view it like that. I imagine myself writing it down in a memoir or telling a fellow traveler on the road “Yeah, I did some factory work for a stretch in Milwaukee before heading down to Chile for a few years”.

For the past year or so, I’ve realized that some of my motivation for doing the things I do is to tell stories. Maybe I drove a giant metal spider through the desert naked shooting fireballs partly to say I did.

Lately, however, instead of storytelling being a motivation to do certain things, I’ve started viewing my life as a story itself; that I’ve already written pages and chapters and there’s many more sentences, pages, and chapters to go.

To me, a map is one of the most powerful things in the world. To have the entire world laid out in front of you really makes everything seem possible.
After I got back from my trip numerous people told me “Well, it’s good that you get it out of your system while you’re young”. But how can the desire to explore and discover and experience ever leave one’s system? No, my friend; this is just the beginning.

Never have I crossed such beauty as I did on my two months on the road. The people were beautiful. The ideas were beautiful. The cities were beautiful. The scenery was beautiful. And this, well, this was probably one of the most magical places I’ve ever been to. I can’t wait until I can lay here once more, once again forgetting that life existed outside of that beautiful place.
